62" bow for a 5' woman?!

I did all the calculations and my draw length is 23". According to your chart that means I need a 62" recurve. I am 5 feet tall. Really short. Isn't this WAY too big for me? It is longer than I am tall!

Is this normal? Are recurves suppose to be taller than the person using it? I want to search for a bow starting this week so I hope you can guide me with this ASAP! Thank you! :)

Is length of bow relative to height of the archer?

Hello Jennifer and thank you for your question about bow size.

The one thing that you need to keep in mind is that the bow size is relative to your actual draw length and not your height.

The bow size charts are simply suggestions based on many years of experience.

It is possible that you can shoot a 60" (assuming we are talking modern recurve bow (take-down or ILF style). I would not suggest that you go any shorter.

Again, the main point to illustrate is that the bow size is based on the archers draw length and not the height of the archer.
